Shravan month - 6th July 2020 to 3rd August 2020 (North India)


In the month of Shravan, Lord Shiva blesses his devotees abundantly as He had married Maa Parvati during this month .

The name Shravan comes from the nakshatra of Shravan which is ruled by moon during this month .

All the days are auspicious in this month for a shubh arambh*or *auspicious beginning.

Fasts of all Mondays falling in this month are very beneficial specially for unmarried girls desirous of getting a good husband. Starting the vrat from a Monday in Shravan month and continuing for 16 Mondays is highly beneficial for getting a good match.

This time we have 5 Monday’s falling in this month.

Spiritual activities to be done during this month are as follows:

Devotees can engage themselves in bhajans, meditation or sadhana at home in the Brahma muhurut {4.30am to 6am }or after sunset for best results.

Though prayers can be done throughout the day but the best time is as mentioned above .

We all are in an emergency situation of corona right now so stay at home and do not go to the mandir.

The ones who have Shiva Lingum at home in their mandir can bathe it with milk & water. As doing this cleans your soul.

If you have an idol of Lord Shiva you can offer it scented water to get a son.

Offer Naivedya for long life for the inmates of the house.

Lighting a Diya will give you knowledge.

Offering curd which is the favourite of Lord Shiva a person gets wealth & good vehicle.

Offering ghee or sugarcane juice can bless one with wealth and happiness.

Bathing the idol with Ganga Jal one attains Moksha.

Offering bhaang gets us all our wishes fulfilled along with victory in all areas of life .

Some precautions to be taken during prayers:

Do not offer * kumkum* or sindoor, instead use sandalwood paste for worshipping.

Do not offer Tulsi leaves as our Puranas tell us that Lord Vishnu had accepted Tulsi as his wife.

Do not use Shankh to offer water or milk as it is a symbol of the demon Shankhchood that was killed by Lord Shiva.

All days of the week in the month of the pious month of Shravan have different dieties.

Monday is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Tuesday is dedicated to Maa Gauri

Wednesday is for * Lord Krishna*
or Vithala an incarnation of Vishnu .

Thursday is for the Guru
Friday is for worshipping Maa Laxmi

Saturday is dedicated to Shani Dev This day is also called Shravan Shani and prayers are done on this day to gain wealth.

Sunday is dedicated to Surya Dev worshipping Sun on this day is considered very very auspicious in the month of Shravan.

Powerful Mantras to be chanted during the entire month are -

Om Namah Shivaye

Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra

ॐ त्र्य॑म्बकं यजामहे सु॒गन्धिं॑ पुष्टि॒वर्ध॑नम् ।
उ॒र्वा॒रु॒कमि॑व॒ बन्ध॑नान् मृ॒त्योर्मुक्षीय॒ मा ऽमृता॑त् ।
oṃ tryambakaṃ yajāmahe sugandhiṃ puṣṭi-vardhanam
urvārukam iva bandhanān mṛtyor mukṣīya mā 'mṛtāt

Rudra Gayatri Mantra

ॐ तत्पुरुषाय विद्महे महादेवाय धीमहि तन्नो रुद्र: प्रचोदयात।

यह शिव गायत्री मंत्र है, जिसका जप करने से मनुष्य का कल्याण संभव है। शिव गायत्री मंत्र का जप प्रत्येक सोमवार को करना चाहिए। शुक्ल पक्ष के किसी भी सोमवार से उपवास रखते हुए इस मंत्र का आरंभ करना चाहिए।

Om Tatpurushaya Vidmahe Mahadevaya Dhimahi Tanno Rudrah Prachodayat

All these mantras gain more power when chanted 108 times or 1008 times.

Fasting during the month is extremely auspicious as mentioned in the Shiva Puran.

Following the religious & spiritual activities during this month are highly beneficial.
Lord Shiva rules over all the living form like ants and other insects living in the soil. So feeding them with a mixture of Ghee , flour and sugar {Dry halwa - atta fried with ghee and sugar} in the parks or spaces away from home is good for wealth.
